Anatomy Syllabus

Fall 2008 Dr. Avalos

Course Content

During this course students will study Human Anatomy as it relates to exercise and everyday activities.

Class Materials - You will need to bring to class every day:

  • Covered anatomy textbook and anatomy coloring book
  • 3 ring binder with college ruled paper and dividers
  • Composition notebook
  • Black or blue pens, and a red pen (no white-out)
  • Note cards
  • Colored pencils

Homework

Daily review of class materials is essential for a thorough understanding of the concepts presented each day in class. Homework will consist of reading the textbook, answering questions, vocabulary review, and worksheets. Homework is due at the beginning of each class period.

Class Participation and Daily Quizzes

There will be short quizzes covering the previous day's lesson and/or homework. A daily class participation grade will be given based on attendance, participation and behavior. Students will lose points if they are tardy, leave class, are disruptive, and are not prepared for class or do not participate. Daily quizzes cannot be made up if a student is tardy. Students that are tardy will receive a zero, no credit, if they arrive at class after the daily quiz has been given.

Tests and Quizzes

Each chapter/unit will have a test. Additional test/quizzes may be given over selected material. Plenty of advanced notice will be given for tests. You will also be given tests on material covered in anatomy coloring book. Students are expected to take the test on the day it is given even if they were absent the day before the test. Students who are absent on the day of the test are required to make up the test the day they return to class. The test shall be taken before school, during lunch or after school.

Absences

If you are absent, it is you responsibility to find out what material was covered in class, what assignments were given and to turn in missing assignments. Make-up assignment sheets will be available in the office the day you return. You should pick up your make-up assignment sheet before your first period class. You will have as many days as you were absent to make up your work. You will receive a zero for any assignments not made up during that time period.

Extra Help and Extra Credit

Students are encouraged to use the supervised study hall after school or ask me for help if you need it. Please let me know ahead of time so that we can arrange a time for you additional help. I will also give extra credit work for any missed assignments. If you have any questions concerning your assignments or class work, I can be reached via email at doctorpa03@netzero.com.
