Art 2 Syllabus

Mrs. Edie Zelon Estrada Teacher Contact: (310) 530-1231 (Monday-Friday after class) 2011-2012

Course Summary:

Art II includes learning about art vocabulary, art theory, art skills, and art history. The media that the students will use will be pencil, charcoal, ink, oil and chalk pastels, markers, clay, watercolor, tempera, and acrylic paints. Art II will be more advanced than Art I regarding art skills, concepts and art history. The five strands from the CA Visual Art Standards will be incorporated into the lessons and projects. In addition, our "Expected School Wide Learning Results" will be included in various art projects to emphasize their importance.

Class Materials Needed:

A fee of $20 will be required for each student for the semester. The fee will cover the costs of all the art materials needed. There is no text book required.

Assessment:

Each student is expected to complete his/her art assignment during class time. Every assignment will be graded by using our school wide model

97% - 100% A+
93% - 96% A
90% - 92% A-
87% - 89% B+
83% - 86% B
80% - 82% B-
77% - 79% C+

70% - 72% C-
67% - 69% D+
63% - 66% D
60% - 62% D-
0 - 59% F

There is no homework required; however, if a student needs more time to complete their class work, it is essential that the student should finish the project at home. It is very important for each student to turn in every project assigned because each missing project will cause the student's grade to go down by one letter grade.

Each project will be graded based on whether or not the student has met the art skills taught. (For example, if the project given is about composition, the artwork should include the Principals of Design.) In addition, each student is expected to take notes and draw examples in their art notebooks. These art notebooks will be counted for their final- it is worth four grades. Extra credit is also accepted.

(Five drawings that receive the grade of a B or higher can be substituted for one project/grade.)
