Coach Washington is back with the girl’s basketball team for the 2011-12 season, but this time as an assistant. The Washington family is close to having their second baby, and we so appreciate coach W volunteering his time. The girls new head coach is Gene Salas. Coach Salas is no stranger to Pacific Lutheran as he recently coached the boy’s football program to back-to-back appearances in the CIF playoffs. Coach Salas and wife Diana’s children Keanna and Malachi, also play basketball for the Stingrays. Another big change for the Lady Rays was the graduation of All-League and All-CIF athlete Tayler Pattillo. Ms. Pattillo was the ‘go-to’ girl for four seasons of Stingray basketball, and set many scoring records at Pacific Lutheran. She now plays volleyball for Harbor College. So where will the points come from? The team will find out early on as they entered the Rolling Hills Prep Tournament November 30th thru December 3rd at the Oak Street gym in Torrance (1780 Oak St). The level of competition will be very high, and we hope to see you there. Returning players for 2011-12 include Carli Wightman, Danielle and Katie Cinquina, Kaylin McAloney, Hope Agosto, Lucy Garvey, Sae Hee Hong and Keanna Salas. And that’s 90% of the team as only one new player joins the Stingrays, Rachel Gardner. This will be only the second year of high school basketball for all of the returning players. And though they lack experience, there is a great, young nucleus for the future. Go Stingrays!!
