Biology

Biology is a study of the complexity, similarities and differences of the living creation. This course begins with an overview of scientific thought especially as it relates to the biological world. Through a study of biochemistry and molecular biology students explore the cellular and molecular components of life. The structures and functions of organisms are studied through microbiology, botany, zoology, and human physiology. The interaction of organisms with other organisms and the environment is also studied.

The Science Department at Pacific Lutheran believes scientific literacy enhances a student’s ability to appreciate our Creator and the world which God has created. Through problem solving, qualitative and quantitative analyses, and verbal and written communications, students develop an appreciation for science as an investigative process rather than merely a body of knowledge. Students develop skills to investigate and understand the relationships between science, technology, society, and the quality of life. All incoming freshman will take General Science. To fulfill graduation requirements, students must successfully complete a year of biological science (Biology) and one year of physical science (Chemistry or Physics).
