Pacific Lutheran High School's Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLR's) provide the framework and focus for student learning and contain the critical skills deemed most important by the school. ESLR's are embedded into the school curriculum and work alongside California content standards and/or other appropriate content standards to maximize student learning, connect this learning to the school's mission and philosophy, and ensure students are equipped for their futures.

Putting Christ First

• Calculus ~ In God we Trust regarding Psalm 27
• Theology 9-10 ~ students learned three primary Christian interpretations of the Lord’s Supper
• Theology 12 ~ students compared and contrasted nine different non-Christian historical sources discussing the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ

Learning for Life (Critical Thinking)

• Biology ~ describe specialized tissues in plants
• Chemistry ~ using S’mores to identify the limiting regent in a reaction
• Calculus ~ integration using partial fractions, table and computer algebra systems. Provided AP Exam samples and solutions on a CD
• US History (H) ~ WWII in Europe and Pacific
• Theology 11 ~ final discussions on Gospel of Luke
• Theology 9-10 ~ students learned how the Lord’s Supper does not violate the laws of logic
• Theology 12 ~ students learned Pascal’s Wager as an argument for God’s existence

Honing Life Skills (Communication / Technology)

• General Science ~ become effective speakers through PowerPoint presentation of an article of science in the news
• Calculus ~ shared use and helped each other using instructor’s mathematics on a laptop
• US History (H) ~ was dropping the atomic bomb on 2 Japanese cities justified?
• Business Math ~ Perimter, Area, Volume of objects

Serving Church, School and Community

• General Science ~ explore ways to prevent erosion
• Biology ~ using plants to prevent erosion
• Business Math ~ teamwork in preparing for chapter test
