
The major purpose of the course is to provide the students with greater opportunites to fine-tune the communication skills acquired in Spanish 1. Communication is the main goal of the foreign language classroom. Students learn the appropriate grammar or structural pattern when needed for comprehending or conveying messages. The culture of a region, especially in its current manifestations, is stressed as an integral part of language learning, instruction is set within a global context. By comparing components of Spanish culture with equivalent aspects in other cultures.
In this manner students will discern the different ways in which various people handle such common concerns as the role of family members, the relationship of people to nature and the environment, the organization of society and the importance of education. Other values and other ways of saying and doing things are presented as being just as acceptable as one's own.
